Something New is Coming Soon! Midnight Murders: An Alex Mercer Mystery by Jen Sequel

You may have noticed a lack of posts this past week...It was all for a good cause as I just finished penning episode 10 of an all new serial novel for Amazon's newest platform, Kindle Vella!

If you follow me on social media, you may have noticed a post a few weeks back announcing a new contest sponsored by Amazon - The Vellys. This is an exciting opportunity for authors to publish new stories as entries to this contest. I couldn't resist the opportunity and have been scrambling to come up with a new story and carve out time to write it.

Juggling a full time job, two ongoing serial novels, commissions, and running my website served as a learning experience for this venture. Something had to give. For my subscribers, you have my heart-felt apologies for neglecting you last week. But I think you will love my new story!

I only just submitted it for review this morning and (assuming all goes well) it will post on Thursday, July 25th! That is when I will need your help!

For all contests, there are requirements. In order to even be considered, I need to match several. The two that took the most time was to write a total of 10 episodes that equaled a minimum of 10k words. I accomplished both to at least get the ball rolling. Here's where you come in...

In order to qualify, I will need your votes. But that part is easy. Simply 'Follow' the story once it is released and this tells Amazon that you are voting for it to be a part of the contest. Then start reading. It's really that simple.

And the best part...reading the first TEN episodes is absolutely FREE. You heard me. Free. It's the best way to sample a novel before you commit. (but you'll also find that unlocking episodes after that is extremely cheap (not to mention addictive)).

The platform is also geared toward interaction. No more do you need to hunt down an author's social media account to send them a message on how you liked what they wrote. You also don't need to worry about joining boo clubs and hoping to find readers of the story to talk about it. You can add comments on each episode to interact with the author and other readers. Even a simple thumbs up helps keep me motivated to continue posting. :)

The caveat: Kindle Vella does require an Amazon account. That's it. You don't need a Kindle. You don't need an app. You can read from any browser at any time. Read on your desktop, laptop, phone, or tablet. It's the easiest platform I've come across.

That's enough babbling for now...here's the blurb for my new story!

For Detective Alex Mercer, returning to the force is bittersweet. Relegated to the graveyard shift as punishment for a mishap in a previous investigation, Alex braces for long, uneventful nights. But her first case back proves to be more than anyone expected. A brutal murder marks the beginning of a terrifying spree, with each new victim meeting an increasingly violent end. As the body count rises, Alex's confidence wavers.

When her lieutenant is pressured to bring in the FBI, Alex is forced to share the investigation with BAU Special Agent Gabriel Carter. Can she set her ego aside and work with Carter to outsmart a killer who seems always one step ahead? Or will her self-doubt and the shadow of her past mistakes cost another innocent life?

In "The Midnight Murders," Alex Mercer must navigate the darkest corners of her city—and her psyche—to stop a twisted murderer before midnight strikes again.
