Captain Rowan Vale of the Black Dawn has faced storms, battles, and death at sea. Nothing has prepared him for the island that waits beyond the wreckage of his ship.
After a monstrous storm tears the Black Dawn apart, Vale awakens on a strange shore surrounded by the bodies of his men. The survivors soon discover they have reached the Demon Isles, a place sailors whisper about in terrified voices, where ships are lured to their destruction and the men who wash ashore are said to become something far worse than human.
The legends are true.
Before Vale and his remaining crew can escape, they are captured by the island's warriors and brought before its enigmatic queen, a formidable woman whispered to be half mad, bloodthirsty, and more demon than human herself.
But Vale is not like the others.
Rather than breaking him, the Queen finds something in the pirate captain that earns her interest. She offers him a glimpse behind the island's legends and a terrible truth: survival here comes at a price, and escape may demand a sacrifice greater than death.
Now Vale must survive the Queen, her warriors, the creatures that haunt the island, and the darkness that is slowly consuming his men.
Because on the Demon Isles, the question isn't whether you will survive.
It's what you will become to do it.
