Flight of Fear: A Gothic Tale

In a somber village, 'neath the moon's pale glow,
A girl walks alone, her steps soft and slow,
But overhead, a shadowed presence looms,
A murder of crows, with eyes like tombs.
At first, she pays no heed to their dark flight,
But soon she feels their gaze, piercing the night,
Their caws like whispers, haunting her dreams,
As paranoia grips her in silent screams.
They follow her steps with sinister grace,
A chorus of blackness, a spectral chase,
Their beady eyes watch her every move,
As though they know secrets she can't prove.
In the dead of night, when all's asleep,
She hears their calls, so hauntingly deep,
They perch on rooftops, branches, and wires,
Fanning the flames of her darkest desires.
She shuts her curtains, locks each door tight,
But still, she feels their presence, taking flight,
Their shadows dance upon her bedroom wall,
A reminder that she's not alone at all.
Is it madness, this fear that won't subside?
Or are the crows truly her fate's cruel guide?
In her mind's eye, their feathers turn to knives,
And she's trapped in a nightmare from which she strives.
The girl, once innocent, now consumed by dread,
Haunted by the murder of crows overhead,
As her sanity unravels, her terror grows,
In the shadow of those ominous crows.
I hope you like this little gothic tale/poem. Having wrapped up the Midnight Carnival early (and not having a back up plan) I thought I would mix things up a bit. This was fun and I may do some flash fiction too. Hard to say but I want you to have some content.
Leave a comment with suggestions if you have any :-)
I also want to extend some apologies...I've been having some computer issues which is also causing delays :( More soon, I promise!
